Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
I never seem to be able to volunteer to help with the Habitat houses in our area. I think this is a wonderful program. One of our church members is a board member in our community. When I found out they were going to have a ‘build day’ today I asked if they needed lunch. He said they did, so I volunteered. I got pork roast on sale for $1.19 this week, so I cook them and made pulled pork for sandwiches. I also purchased enough for the next Manna Meal (free meal program at our church). I actually cooked about 50 lbs. of pork on Thursday.
I knew that something hot would probably be good. I cooked “15 Bean Soup”. I used the broth from the cooked pork as part of the cooking liquid for the pork.
I had some donated cookies and I purchased buns and pickles.
About 11:00am I began to pack everything into the Expedition. I had no idea on how many to cook for, so we estimated about 50. When I arrived they were about to raise one of the walls. After they raised the second wall we broke for lunch. The “warm” soup was a hit, as was the pulled pork sandwiches. Today it was 26 degrees with snow and wind.
I hope I warmed the builders up and replenished their strength to continue to build. The leftovers were frozen for our free meal that will be served Dec. 20th. Please pray that more people will come to the free meal. We are having 50-60 people each month. Please pray that we can expand to weekly in the next few months. In order to have this accomplished we need more volunteers and more funding.
God is good and I know he will direct and provide.
Blessings to all.
Great job. Thank you for your servant heart.
Thank you for your encouragement. I am a “caregiver” and have been all of my life. Sometimes it is in the background and sometimes it the spotlight. I visited your blog and will return. I have it tagged to read.
