Jermiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This is my last week in the Great Northwest. As this chapter of my life ends I will resume my life back in Ky. My life there will NOT be the same. I have had a much needed time to reflect on what is really important. Instead of spending time in meetings, I want to “meet needs.” Most of my church committee commitments will end in December, and I plan not to get so involved in the workings of the church and just start “working.” I know too many cute saying, they are just flowing this morning.
While I have been here in the west I have had a lot of time to knit, quilt, craft, etc. I completed two prayer shawls and they have been given to some nursing home residents. In doing shawls I always manage to have some leftover yarn. With the yarn I started making “hats”. So far I have completed “14″. I got so involved that I even bought more yarn just for hats. I began asking myself, “why am I making all these hats?” I have come to the conclusion that God wants this to be a ministry. I contacted the Prayer Shawl minstry to see if they knew of any minsitry for hats, etc. They responded that a lot of the prayer shawl makers also make hats, etc.
There are numerous ministries for cancer victims, but I feel lead that this needs to be a broader ministry. There are a lot of people who need “Hope” . I feel this ministry should be different and stand on its own. I will be launching a web page or blog as soon as I get back to Kentucky. I will post directions, sizes, etc. plus a card that can be printed for each hat. My inspiration is to make these hats and distribute them to: homeless shelters, women’s abuse shelters, etc. Hats can be for children, infants, men and women. The time involved in making one hat is only a few hours, so people that don’t have the time to make a large shawl could participate in this ministry.
Using the Knifty Kniffer round looms even children can make hats. I hope all of my bloggers will help spend the word of this new minsitry. The cost is minimal in time and money, but the rewards will be GREAT. Until I get the new blog up and running feel free to comment here and I will post a link to the new site when it is operational.
I thought I had a name, but after searching the internet the name I came up with: Hats of Hope is already copyrighted by a manufacturer of baseball caps with inspiring messages. I am open to ideas and suggestions for names. The scripture verse that I will be using is: Isaiah 40:31 Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Thanks for your help in advance.
